This elegant vintage Avia is a wonderful example of the understated Swiss dress watches of the 1960s. Where the previous Avia Cadet had a more traditional layout with Arabic numerals and centre seconds, this example takes a much more minimalist approach, with a clean two-hand design and an exceptionally slim profile.
The 32.6mm case measures 40.2mm lug-to-lug and just 8.6mm thick, including the domed crystal. The slightly curved lugs give the watch a surprisingly graceful presence on the wrist despite its modest diameter, while the slim case is perfectly suited to the refined dress-watch styling of the period.
The silver sunburst dial is beautifully restrained. A single applied gold-tone Arabic numeral at 12 is surrounded by long, faceted gold baton markers, all matched by slim gold-tone hands. With no seconds hand, the dial remains exceptionally clean and balanced.
