Lacorda Square Dress Watch | Swiss Manual Wind | Incabloc | 20-Micron Gold-Plated Bezel | Silver Sunburst Dial | 28.2mm Case | Circa 1950s–1960s

$185.00

This elegant Lacorda is a beautifully restrained example of mid-century French-market watchmaking, combining a slim square case with a Swiss mechanical movement and understated gold-and-silver styling. Dating approximately to the 1950s or 1960s, its compact proportions and exceptionally thin profile give it the refined character of a classic vintage dress watch.

At just 28.2mm wide, 36.4mm lug-to-lug, and only 6.8mm thick, the watch has wonderfully delicate proportions. The integrated flared lugs extend naturally from the square case, while the thin profile would have slipped easily beneath a shirt cuff. A textured black lizard/alligator-grain Kreisler strap complements the formal character of the case.

The silver sunburst dial is beautifully minimalist, with slim gold-tone stick markers and matching leaf-style hands. The flowing Lacorda script adds a touch of period elegance, while the INCABLOC signature above 6 o'clock highlights the movement's shock-protection system. The combination of the reflective sunburst surface and warm gold furniture gives the otherwise simple dial considerable depth.

The case is marked “Lunette Plaque Or G 20 Microns,” indicating a substantial 20-micron layer of real gold plating on the bezel, paired with a stainless-steel snap caseback. The outer case carries reference 2073, while the inner caseback is marked 637 and features decorative perlage. There is some age-related discolouration around the inner edge of the gold-plated case, adding to its honest vintage character.

Inside is a Swiss manual-wind lever movement equipped with Incabloc shock protection. The movement features a clean rhodium finish with polished bevels and a traditional regulator system. Incabloc was an important development in making delicate mechanical watches more resistant to everyday shocks, protecting the vulnerable balance staff pivots from damage.

Lacorda has an especially interesting French connection. The company was established after the Second World War by Eric Weil, who began importing Swiss watch components and assembling watches for the French market at a time when France was experiencing a significant shortage of watches. The brand grew considerably during the 1950s and became a notable name in the French watch market before later ownership changes and the arrival of quartz technology reshaped the industry.

This is a particularly charming example of Lacorda's mid-century output: small, exceptionally thin, elegant, and distinctly European. With its square silhouette, 20-micron gold bezel, silver sunburst dial, Incabloc-protected Swiss movement, and French-market heritage, it is a wonderful little dress watch from the final golden decades of traditional mechanical watchmaking.
