Sellita | 17 Jewels | Incabloc | Gold-Filled Case | Circa 1950s

$185.00

This vintage Sellita is a striking example of mid-century Swiss watch design, combining reliable mechanical construction with bold styling details that give the watch exceptional character on the wrist. Best known today as one of Switzerland's premier movement manufacturers, Sellita's roots stretch back to the mid-20th century, when the company produced and assembled quality Swiss movements for a wide range of brands.

The watch features a beautifully proportioned gold-filled case with aggressive, sharply sculpted lugs that immediately set it apart from more conventional dress watches of the era. These dramatic lugs create a larger visual presence on the wrist and embody the adventurous styling that defined many watches of the 1950s.

The dial is equally attractive, featuring applied gold Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6, and 9, complemented by applied baton indices for the remaining hours. This mixed-marker layout provides excellent balance and legibility while adding visual interest and depth. The warm dial tones pair beautifully with the gold-filled case, creating an elegant yet distinctly vintage appearance.

Completing the design are lumed sword-style hands, a feature that gives the watch a subtle sport-watch influence while maintaining its dressy character. The aged lume adds authenticity and reinforces the watch's original mid-century charm.

Powering the watch is a manually wound Swiss movement fitted with seventeen jewels and Incabloc shock protection. During the 1950s, a seventeen-jewel movement represented a well-equipped, fully jeweled Swiss lever movement designed for reliable everyday use. Combined with Incabloc, one of the most important innovations in shock-resistant watchmaking, this Sellita was built to withstand the rigors of daily wear while maintaining dependable performance.

The gold-filled case construction offers another desirable feature. Unlike simple gold plating, gold-filled cases utilize a thick layer of gold bonded to a base metal core, providing significantly greater durability and allowing these watches to retain their attractive appearance for decades.

Today, watches like this are appreciated not only for their honest mechanical construction but also for the individuality of their designs. The combination of aggressive lugs, lumed sword hands, and mixed numeral markers gives this Sellita a personality that many modern watches struggle to replicate.

A beautifully styled and highly wearable Swiss mechanical watch, this vintage Sellita is a wonderful reminder of an era when even everyday timepieces were designed with creativity, craftsmanship, and unmistakable character.
