This Tudor Oyster “Yorke” Ref. 7804 is a refined and historically significant example from Tudor’s celebrated mid-century “English cities” series — a collection of watches released primarily for the UK market, featuring models named after British cities such as York, Bristol, and London.

Housed in a gold-filled Oyster case measuring approximately 34mm, the Yorke embodies the early elegance of Tudor’s design philosophy: durability inherited from its Rolex connection, paired with a more accessible, understated luxury. The screw-down crown and caseback—features borrowed from Rolex’s Oyster innovation—provided water resistance and robustness rarely found in dress watches of the era.

The dial showcases applied gold numerals and indices, paired with matching gold-tone hands that complement the warm tones of the case. This balance of practicality and refinement reflects the postwar aesthetic Tudor was known for—classic, versatile, and enduringly stylish.

Inside beats a manual-wind movement, typical of early Tudor Oysters of the 1940s–1950s, often based on robust ETA calibers that were finely regulated and adjusted under Tudor’s standards. The caseback is marked “7804” and stainless steel, a hallmark of authentic Tudor Oysters from this period.

Founded in 1926 by Hans Wilsdorf—the same visionary behind Rolex—Tudor was created to offer Rolex’s legendary reliability and craftsmanship at a more approachable price. The Tudor Oyster line, introduced in the mid-20th century, cemented the brand’s identity by pairing Rolex cases and crowns with dependable Swiss movements, offering a unique fusion of strength and style.

This Tudor Oyster Yorke Ref. 7804 is a beautifully preserved piece of Tudor’s early history, combining Rolex engineering heritage with the timeless design and character of a true mid-century classic. Fully serviced, fitted with a new leather band, and running well by vintage standards, it’s ready to be enjoyed and admired for decades to come.
